I'm Karen and I am grateful that I have been given the opportunity to share my artistic story with you.
I have had a love for wildlife and passion for creating since childhood which I believe was the foundation for where my life's journey has come to now. In my early 20's I attended a four week art class with a wildlife artist and she had just completed the most beautiful leopard painting I had ever seen. I remember looking at her work in awe and saying someday I want to be able to do that. Several years later I began attending an art class at a local park district and I stayed with the same instructor on a continuois weekly basis for the next twelve years working only on wildlife drawings. She and I became good friends over the years and I will always be grateful to her for sharing her talent, knowledge, teaching skills and her unending patience with me.
I found that I seemed to be especially attracted to the "big cats" . I love all the distinct features they each have, from their stripes and spots, long and short fur, beautiful eyes and those very long whiskers. I see the beauty and grace in all of them.
With all the passion I feel within myself for the cats, it is also now my desire and goal to be actively involved in making a difference for these endangered species and their long term survival.
I feel very grateful and truly blessed every day, that I have been given this special talent and now have the ability to share my gift with others.
Thank You for allowing me to share in this moment of your time with you,
Karen Smith
MY MISSION STATEMENT
Karens Wildlife Studio has been created to allow me the freedom and pleasure to create my
original wildlife drawings fulfilling a purposeful use of my talent and gifts to share with others, set a
positive example for appreciation and awareness of endangered species and an awareness and
appreciation for artwork and how it can be used to make positive changes in the world.
MY ARTISTS STATEMENT
I have been blessed with the ability to embrace everyday creating my wildlife drawings with a sense
of peace and deep connection to the present moment. Working with colored pencils and a suede mat
background, visions of the long fur, deep stripes and feathered spots and those beautiful, soft, gentle
eyes seem to go through me, down through my hands, through the pencils and come alive on the
suede as I am completely engulfed in the creative process usually without any concept of time or
outer distraction. As an Artist, my purpose and my goal is to share my gift with others and also
represent an awareness and connection between wildlife and all of humanity.
